Фразу «How are you?» американцы и британцы употребляют очень редко и сама по себе не подразумевает ответа.
Рассмотри повседневные (casual), формальные (formal) и забавные (fun) фразы для приветствия в американском и британском английском, которыми вы разнообразите и оживите свою речь, а также удивите носителей языка.
- How are you doing? — ответить на такую фразу можно: «I am doing well, thanks!», или «I am good», не I am doing good. Этот вариант грамматически некорректен.
- How have you been? — очень дружелюбный вариант приветствия.
- What’s going on? / Hey, what’s going on? — более американский вариант. Одним из частых ответов можно услышать: «Nothing much!» или «Not much at all».
- What’s new? или What’s new with you? — обычно спрашиваем, чтобы уточнить, изменилось ли что-либо.
- What’s up? — изначально американский вариант, но сейчас его также часто можно услышать и в британском.
- What are you up to? — очень дружелюбный британский вариант спросить, как дела.
- How are things going? — общая распространённая форма вопроса.
- How are you feeling? — задаём этот вопрос в большинстве случаев, чтобы уточнить о здоровье, если знаем, что до этого, возможно были какие-то проблемы, или, если мы знаем, что собеседник был в нервном состоянии до вашего разговора, например, на встрече или собеседовании. И тут ответить можно: I am feeling great! или I am not feeling so good.
- How’s it going? — больше американский вариант, ответом на который может быть: «Yeah, it’s going right!» или «Everything is good!»
- Похожий на предыдущий, «How is everything?»
- и самый распространённый вариант, «How’s things?» .
- Если кого-то не видели долго, можем спросить «How’s life?» .
- «How’s your day been?» или «How’s your day going?» — ещё одна очень дружелюбная форма приветствия.
Теперь рассмотрим formal phrases (формальные):
- How do you do? — употребляется, когда вы здороваетесь с кем-то, кого не знаете так хорошо. В Британии на эту фразу не подразумевается ответ, только взаимный, такой же вопрос «How do you do?».
- Are you well? — более британский вариант.
- How do you fare?
- How are things coming along? — это выражение можно часто услышать от вашего руководителя на работе, особенно, когда вы работаете над каким-то проектом, например.
- How’s everything coming together? — похожий вариант в употреблении с предыдущий. Ответом может быть: Things are coming together nicely, thank you.
Перейдём к funny phrases (забавным вариантам приветствия), которые можно услышать в семье или общении с друзьями:
- Howdy? — американский вариант.
- How is it hanging? — более американский вариант, но иногда можно услышать и в британском.
- How’s tricks? и What’s sizzling? — очень старомодные, но забавные выражения.
